Comments from June's Contest

The following comments were made by people as they cast their votes in July's contest:

Lino Grandi (#9) is THE BEST !!!!!

My vote to support my brother Sven

I think one of the most important for creating an image is Image composition. You have to make sure the color palette used is right, that all the elements in a scene fit together. Creating a 3D image is a lot like painting. The style, the colors used are very important, often much more than the technical aspect alone. I think one good tip is to take your image, and make it very small. If it still looks good, you've got a winner. Jean-Eric Hénault

the Lino's image is very, very greatest wich I see in my life !!!!?!!!!

good...

Lino Grandi is the best

#1 - great job #2 - love the robots #3 - as much as i like optimus prime i just love a chic with a sniper rifle even more

Sad ... sad... sad.... sad... sad... sad...Was hoping to see more entrys from japanese lightwave artists... Some good images.. but half don't really fall into anime at all...well more than half but I digress

Excellent entries!!! Hard to decide which three... could have had more than 3 first place!

Thank you

none

Damn. These entries are all great.

I love the feathers on Entry #4. Didn't vote for it because I think the shadows in the character don't look 'right'. They're too dark. For example, her face almot look alien-like because of the contrast...

Wow! Some of theses were absolutely awsome! FWIW, number 8 is also a great image.

Philip Gordon's picture is amazing!

cool..sometimes i do something for this compo :)) too bad, that there is no cel-shader plugin for LW5.2 amiga...

Anime is about characters, which is how I voted. I really got a kick out of the Optimus, and almost voted him first.

Anime

These are the only ones that really have an ANIME feel. The very last one that is really low res is pretty cool but you cant tell what it really is.

Viewing the bright, colorful pictures with radiant and happy people was very enjoyable. The Pickup frame has cute sense of humor.

so many great entries; too bad I can only vote for three of them. :( it was tough deciding, but I chose the three that I think best represent the japanese anime style of cel shading.

I voted based on both aesthetics and adherence to topic. There were more than one entries which ignored the theme entirely. I opted to exclude them from evaluation entirely.

LWsurfin piece has the essence of anime and manga characters. While all of the pieces are good this one trully captures the theme.

Great Entries! Very hard to choose the best this time.

I think Sven G. Moll did a rather exceptional job!!

So many nice images, the voting is really hard.

Keep the good work! And nice meeting you at siggraph!

Nice use of f stop in anime on 13, i almost chose it for first...but 2 had more elements.. and sex is a big element of anime... shouldah been a tie, tbu theres no tie button :)

too difficult to just pick three this month!

Cool stuff!

Hey Davy! :)

wow...that's all I can say!!!

Hey the one by Dennis Price is all fuzzed out on the thumbnail.

great !

Angel.jpg gets my vote for #1 Of all the entries this month, this one looks most like it could have been an actual cell from an anime film. The shading is perfect and simple, not overly complex. The lines are soft and a nice use of glow as well, a common effect in anime. Also the subject matter is the best as well. It's not an image of a huge robot, or anime babe posing for the camera... This image shows something real... wonder and amazement. Kudos Jennifer.

Well, a few of these look more like saturday morning cartoons than Anime. Although that's not necessarily a bad thing - just shows the range of the cel shader. Might have been a cool contest idea :) Still, had to go with the ones that really looked like anime frames .. and there were some amazing pics here.

Only two were Anime...no third place

Very nice images, but what I liked the most, was that the artists make a lot of comments on how they make it the pictures. There's a lot of value on that.

SEX WAX!!!! Lightwave sufin' IS Beautiful!!!! Nice werk!!!

I wish I had another vote, Lino Grandi also deserves credit. Lots of great work!

Lets face it, sex wax was always going to win:))

Lwsurfin.jpg was definitely my favorite as it definitely captured the spirit of the anime topic the best. Perhaps some of the contestants do not understand what anime is, but I thought the topic was pretty clearly stated.

Geez, this was really a tough one! All of these images are great! I wonder if Sven could do a

Despite the

All the entries looked very nice, but most did not really fit a topic of Anime. They would be good as a Adult Cartoon (I hate that word) contest entry, but they were missing many of the things that make Anime unique. That's my two cents anyway.

Cool

Love the topic this month! Hope I can get in on the next one.

Number 12 was quite good also..some of the others had a good cel style, but not Anime, more Heavy Metal..IMO. Anyway, fun stuff, wish I'd entered.

Judged on the Anime reality. Some of the ones I haven't voted for are better, but the comp was for Anime realism.

entry 12 could easily be a third placer IMHO.

I'm using GO!Zilla... It would be nice to be able to load all the big pictures from the same page, so I could look at them locally. Thanx. Great Job, BTW :)

WOW! These images are so much better than I expected!!
