"On Guard"

This image is titled "on guard". The sentry is on guard duty, his ax has
seen use...recently. The somewhat hapless prisoner would love to see the
full moon, but the only moon he'll be seeing is...  The guard took about
5 hours to model using the usual box,bevel, smooth shift, metanurb,
metaform methods. The prisoner's hands took a couple of hours and I
spent a few hours tweaking lights and textures. The flame was a lathed
spline with radial jitter applied. To get the shadow I wanted as well as
the lighting I rendered the image in three passes, background, alpha,
and foreground. The bloodstains (they might be ketchup) were added in
Photoshop.
