"Mr. Vain"
This image was created in LightWave 3D v5.6. It is a raw rendered frame,
and has not been retouched. The scene, all objects and image maps were
created by me.
Adobe Photoshop was used for the creation of image maps only.
This ghastly ghoul was modeled using MetaNURBS and a variety of other
techniques. He stands before the camera, with his claw-like hand
outstreched towards the viewer. A slimy worm-like creature passes through
his skull, and sinks deep into the base of his neck (or appears to).
The skin has been raised where the worm digs through the ghoul's mottled and
veiny flesh. If you look closely, you can see the worm passing through his
left eye socket.
His body is covered in spikey and twisted hair-like things. This is a
seamless full-body model with detailed ears, nostrils, eye sockets, and
eyelids. Although much of his body is not visible in this shot, he has
quite the gut, along with twisted legs, a deformed -- uh -- posterior,
five-digit hands, and HUGE feet.
This scene appears quite dark, yet it contains a total of 87 lights.
Mr. Ghoul is lit with what started as a standard 3-point lighting
arrangement. An extra light was added, in order to provide some of the
illumination that he'd receive from the nearby lanterns. An additional
light (set farther away and above), shines through the spikes behind him.
The rest of the lights were used for illuminating and adding atmosphere to
the building and structures around the ghoul. As you can tell, a very
wide-angle lens was used for this image. In addition, Trace Reflection and
Trace Refraction were not used.
Lastly, Jack-o-lanterns were placed on the floor near him for that extra
Halloween touch. :]
Happy Halloween and all that stuff!
