Rigger's Dream
My entry this month was even more rushed than last month's!
I'm leaving Singapore after 4.5 years of collecting junk
and packing is a real pain. If it wasn't for really loud
rock, it wouldn't have been finished, in fact.
Don't ask me what it is or what it means, since I know not.
It took about 2 days to completely finished from scratch,
and the final 800x600 images took 1.25 hours to render on
a P200 (low AA).
Everything was done in LW 5.6 except the lightning which
was done in WinImages:F/X 4. Also, I'd like to apologize in
advance for the lens flare; I just haven't used one in so
long I couldn't resist...
With regards to the settings:
I'm using the Snow shader more than the Rust shader on the
legs. The snow shader actually makes amazing rust if fiddled
with enough. I find the Rust shader OK in some situations
(on the eye ribs it's quite nice) but the Snow shader makes
for a more even and controllable rustiness.
The Water shader I thought was a complete waste of time
until I realized you needed to make your water as you would
normally (bump with optional displacement map) THEN apply
and tweak the Water shader. Actually, for this image, I
basically didn't modify the default Water settings except
to increase the fractal bump size (the water is about 20 KM
wide).
The Snow shader I just applied to the legs and adjusted the
slope angle until I hit this look. I adjusted the colour1 to
be the Rust color and colour 2 to be the base (grey) colour.
A fractal bump and I'm done. A common fractal bump map gave
the overall look and then I then added the Rust shader with
a very high Max Radius (in my case 100 but could be higher
in fact) using Drops mode.
I then copied this surface to the other relevant surfaces
and rendered away!
