"Ouch!"
In it you will notice a familiar spacecraft (that is used in the bulk of LW demos and exercises) repainted *ahem* purple. It is leisurely destroying a slow moving ground target (ie. Maya, SoftImage, MAAAAXXXXX... take your pick) on a strafing run.
The image was created entirely in Lightwave 5.6 (textures were created in photoshop). I modelled, textured and layed out everything except the spacecraft/jetcraft which is a stock object on the Lightwave install CD.
For the explosion, I used modelled objects combined with lots of motion blur, fractal mapping, glow, the SurfBlur surfacing plugin, and a couple of bright lensflares. There was also a clump of single point polygons created in modeller using the random points plugin, and then expanded quickly on impact. The missile contrail from the jet was animated with a 50 point particlestorm emitter located in the exhaust of the missile, and HyperVoxels 1 used to create the billowing volumetric effect.
Finally, the slight dust cloud in the distance created by the turbulence of the low flying jet was created with a group of single point polys created in modeller and then used Steamer to render the effect with fractal noise using world coordinates.
