"Olympics 2002"
I didn't think I'd have the time to do this, I'm gratefully under a
deadline on an ad project, and as a one man operation, no one to delegate
to. I decided I could spare today due to the extension and lack of
participation this month, I mean what the heck, after all, I had an
inspiration!
My son Eric is one of those to whom clothing is strictly a
style statement, without basis in environment. He's heavily into
skateboards and wants to snowboard badly. He's extreme oriented! I
pictured the Olympic spirit as not just the events, but the prelude, the
learning and excelling at a sport to the extent that it dominates your
mind. I pictured his working out till the last rays of day on some aerial
maneuver, wearing his trademark baggy shorts and t-shirt. It's all made by
me.
The humanoid is an ongoing project, the assembly, boning, and
miscellaneous objects took all day, the backdrop was a bw image from a
newspaper that I took into PS, blurred to get rid of the pixels, and
colored to suit, mapped it onto a plane with an alpha image, over a
gradient backdrop, rendered the image and saved, went back into PS with the
new image, applied some motion blur, futzed a bit...then in layout changed
to this image on the plane then inserted the snowboarder. Used steamer for
the snow effects and the lens flare and reflections/rendered the image.
It's about 119k or so 720x480, took 6 and a half minutes at enhanced
medium AA on a DEC Alpha 300 mhz, 128 ram, slow video card.
