"Quest for the Bronze"

This Olympic Moment was inspired by the late John Belushi. Particularly, a skit from SNL in which Belushi portrayed a chubby olympic athlete competing for the gold.

The skier is in excess of 23,000 polys. He is composited over a generic snowy mountain shot. The flag and tiger skin(socks) surfaces are included with LW 5.5.

There are two lights in the scene. One is a distant light, positioned and slightly colored to simulate natural lighting, and the other is a point light placed slightly below the skiier to simulate reflected light from the snow's surface.

My original intention was to construct a long jump platform, complete with a texture mapped crowd, a ski lift, and finish line. But when I finished the chubby boy, I wanted him to be the sole focus of the image. I think this rendering depicts one of the most powerful aspects of computer generated imagery. The ability to make people laugh...or at least smile. : ^ )
