Image Title: "Go Ahead, Little Dog, Laugh!"
Everyone knows the story of "Hey, Diddle Diddle..", but our society has
become so anthropocentric that the incredible feat of the bovine character
in the story is treated as a mere sidenote, and the bovine herself might as
well be a piece of furniture for all we understand about her motivations and
emotional response to the rather extraordinary, not to say extraterrestrial,
situation she finds herself in.
This illustration is my attempt to rectify that situation, allowing us to
see the cow in all her emotional turmoil, as a living being with thoughts
and feelings all her own. Cow liberation!
The image was created entirely in LightWave 5.5 (with the exception of the
background nebula, created in PhotoShop 4.0), using the stock cow.lwo as a
starting point. Her face was sliced, diced and augmented using Modeler's
plastic surgery, and her body was minimally boned in Layout for posing
purposes. The Earth is the stock Earth object that comes with LW, with the
addition of fractal clouds, and the moon is a simple sphere mapped with
Clementine data. The "speed lines" were created by rail extruding the cow's
rear end and rendering it at high transparency with transparent edges. A
slight glow was added to selected surfaces to enhance the "dreamlike"
quality of the image.
The image size was reduced in PhotoShop to 417x500 to allow browsers set at
800x600 to view the entire image.
