"The things some people will do!" (Oscar.jpg) 25/12/1997
Biog:
I was sitting at home on Christmas Day
I like Nick Park's Wallace & Gromit movies, A lady I know had given me
some plastic model figures of some of the characters featured in
"The Wrong Trousers" as a gift. (I love to have toys on my desk).
I pondered what Wallace & Gromit might do about the MailingList comp.
More than that I wondered what the Lightwave cow might be thinking now
W&G had taken an Oscar - I realised that just as any other ham actor
gone before, it might do just about anything to become a star in it's own
right. All it would want is one decent award, and then it could buy a
ranch and retire happy.
I wanted to add a caption, but could not decide which one I liked best,
When looking at the image sometimes it's as if the cow would say
"And for this they give oscars?!" (bemused)
OR "I don't care - call my Agent now!" (full on tantrum mode)
Other times it's like "OK guys, this time you went just a bit too far"
(don't mind being blown up, but this?!)
OR "And THESE are the RIGHT trousers - the hell you say!" (total disbelief!)
"It's just gotta be my turn soon!" has also come to mind as did an
outburst questioning the entire crew's parentage and possible sustained
usage of recreational phamaceuticals - but which is, of course, entirely
un-publishable here! And some obscure reference to Mad Animator's Disease! ;-)
I dunno, I think it's best you decide what's being said/thought here!
Construction:
I made a ball, cut the bottom off, moved a copy to another layer,
repositioned them, and cut another half from each, Then made the
polys to join the quarters, and we had a foot! Flattened the top
into one poly, lost the surplus points. Took the now single poly,
and did a number of bevels with 3 variations - zero inset some shift,
zero shift some inset, no shift minus inset etc. to get the corrugated
effect for the legs.
Another larger ball for the tub, cut off lower in height than
I needed, more of the single poly stuff, and more bevelling still
(rim detail) etc. Threw a gold box into the front and voila!
Loaded and scaled the stock Lightwave Cow, made like the butcher
(where do you think joints of beef come from then!) To stop the
legs poking out unexpectedly later (if it aint there it can't mess up!)
Next I hit on the idea of the bubble - visited the Academy web site,
and borrowed/stole the image I was looking for (well at least it's
accurate that way, better than I can draw too - deadline's too close
to model one, and hell - they could use the advertising!!) Made three
elipsoids, booleaned 'em together, flattened it out to make sinlge poly
with correct profile, beveled with inset/no shift to make black rim around
the edge - recolour it on the fly as you bevel, since it's already
selected! ;-) Stencil the panel to carry the Oscar image, and bingo!
Imported the whole lot into layout, and set some lights in a hurry
applied the "Oscar" surface and here we are a couple/few hours later!

More a cobweb, than a website - I never go there (I get busy sometimes - you know how it is!)
- suggest you don't bother either - unless of course, you are extremely bored!
Aha! a New Year's resolution is born! (wonder if it'll be this comming year's?)
Enjoy, & happy 1998
